Award-Winning Documentary "The Ones Left Behind: The Plight of Single Mothers in Japan" to Screen at Theater Donut in Okinawa

Okinawa, Japan – January 8, 2025 — Japan Media Services is proud to announce that the acclaimed documentary "The Ones Left Behind: The Plight of Single Mothers in Japan", directed by Rionne McAvoy, will be screened at Theater Donut in Okinawa from January 23 to February 26, 2025. This powerful film shines a light on the challenges faced by single mothers in Japan, offering a heartfelt exploration of their struggles and resilience.

The documentary, which has already received critical acclaim after it's sold out screenings at K's Cinema in Tokyo, is part of McAvoy’s mission to bring awareness to social issues in Japan. The film delves into the lives of single mothers navigating poverty, societal stigma, and the challenges of raising children in an unforgiving economic climate.

Rionne McAvoy, a Tokyo-based filmmaker and professional wrestler, spent two years documenting the lives of these women, offering an intimate and poignant look at their harsh realities. The film features interviews with single mothers, experts, and advocates, weaving personal stories with insightful analysis to paint a comprehensive picture of this pressing issue.
